About the Author
Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, Queen Mother of Bhutan, was born in 1955 and educated in Darjeeling. She is Patron of the Mountain Echoes Literature Festival, and heads the Tarayana Foundation which provides support to people living in Bhutan???s most remote areas.

A wonderful book about her family and the history of magical Bhutan. Her Majesty has traveled all over to small isolated villages, many times on foot, with mules carrying supplies. She created a foundation to help those families with health care, education and other necessities. Her nephew, the 5th King is continuing what his father started - building new roads and providing health care, electricity, and running water to these villages. Anyone reading this lovely book will want to learn more about Bhutan and be enchanted by it. I went there in 2013 and 2014 and look forward to the next trip back.

A unique reading experience!

This order arrived several days before the predicted date. It was very well packaged in neat, protective layers.
I had spent weeks researching for better and more relevant information on Bhutan for my 3rd novel. This book is perfect. It is well written from both a grammatical and stylistic viewpoint. Very informative about geography, history, culture, statistics, etc. without being the least bit dry. The author has a particular talent for awareness of, and ability to portray, the heart and soul of the people. She clearly has a strong love for her nation, but she also writes objectively, as evidenced by her inclusion of less-than-perfect aspects. While a deeply personal account of Bhutan, this book also presents a larger picture, making it very clear that we have much to learn from the benevolent and wise leadership that has helped to modernize the nation while preserving the environment and promoting Gross National Happiness. Reading this book is a place to begin that learning process. However, it can also be read for the sheer entertainment as well!
And one last note: the inclusion of both a glossary and an index makes this work particularly useful and easy to use as a reference. The color illustrations add yet another dimension as well.
