A book on selling that ANYONE can use!

I bought this book because I had bought Hazeldine's other book "Bare Knuckle Negotiating" and used it to save a fortune when I was buying a new house. I'm not in sales but I found this book easy to understand and use. The author uses lots of anecdotes and stories to show how easy it is to persuade people. You don't have to be in sales to benefit hugely from what this guy has to say. The author puts forward a strong case for why you need to be able to sell and be able to negotiate - he succeed with me as I've bought both his books!

This is really practical usable stuff and its nice to get the inside track on how how really good salespeople go about getting people to buy things.

fun loving, big ego Shane

What happens when the successful, strong, independent Cassidy meets up with the sexy, fun loving, big ego Shane? Nothing...If Cassidy has her way. All the men in her life describe her as hard and cold-hearted. She hates the fact that they always want to change her. In her words, "No matter how strong a guy might seem in the beginning, it is guaranteed that she will bruise his ego at some point--just by being strong, being herself. She has no intention of giving up who she is; it is easier to just give up on men." What she does not count on is the Shane does not give up that easily. He is drawn to her independence and strong personality. He knows she is just scared to really let go and live life to the fullest and he wants to be the person to show her how.

SJ McCoy has worked her magic once again with this light hearted romance. When she writes, she paints characters that pop out of the pages as real people with real, everyday issues. So many of us have been hurt by others trying to make us into the perfect person in their eyes, not accepting us for who we really are. When the woman becomes more successful than the man, his ego is bruised and holds that against her by down grading her and not showing any moral support. There is nothing wrong in being successful and inside every successful person, there is someone who just wants to be loved and appreciated.

This is a true love story that will have you laughing, crying and yelling at the characters. SJ McCoy will pull you into her world... the world of Remington Ranch... A world you won't want to leave;

Another Sweet-n-Steamy read from SJ McCoy

I'm a pretty big fan of SJ McCoy, and I liked Shane. I'm not a huge fan of angsty stories, so these sweet and steamy romances are appealing to me. It is refreshing to read a romance that isn't filled with characters flying off with worry and jealousy and fear over nothing but the fact they don't talk to each other.

Shane and Cassidy's problems are mostly that they are both strong characters who don't trust themselves to be ready for the 'real thing' when it comes to a relationship. They have a few small bumps that don't materialize into anything worse because - novel idea - they step over their pride and talk things out.

That being said, I almost felt like there wasn't enough conflict in this story. Much of the worry comes in the form of getting set up for Carter's book, and I don't know - is it contradictory to say I don't like angst, but then be disappointed when there isn't enough conflict?

Shane's story is a good read, and worth the time, but I just came away feeling a little let down - not a lot let down, just a tiny bit. After all, conflict drives a story - and good sex scenes paired with a series of small hurdles doesn't quite do as much for me as battling one powerfully strong external conflict.

Swoon...another hot Remington

I was so happy to open my Kindle and see "Shane". S.J. McCoy's Remington Ranch series is wonderful. I love reading about this family who lives in Montana. Makes me want to go live there with them. This is book 2 of the series. It can be read as a stand alone, but I really feel that you would benefit by reading the books in order. This is a book about the baby brother, Shane. Shane is a big, sexy, know it all Montana cowboy. Cassidy is a ballsy woman who takes no crap from anyone. She says what she thinks, does what she wants, but seems to have a heart of gold. There is a point in the book where Cassidy says that she and Shane are the "same kind of wild'. They were meant for each other. Most of the time it's opposites who attract, but these two do fine being alike. I think what I enjoyed the most is knowing that these two talked over everything. They didn't let others tear them apart. Yes, there were moments of doubt, but they proved their love by being calm. S. J. McCoy has a writing style that will pull you in. You will feel as if you are part of the book. I can't wait to read about the other Remington men. Dual point of view. No cliffhanger. S. J. McCoy has a hit every time that publish button is pushed.

Needed it for theology class. Book came in good packaging and was completely new. The only thing was shipping took a bit longer than anticipated but it was fine.

Price was very good as well, I got it for 30$ and on other websites it was around 100 or more.

A great series!

The Marvin Redpost series is really cute. I would say this targets an audience of 7-11 year olds. My boys love this and think Marvin is humorous and relatable. If your school participates in the AR program, they are around a 3.0 level. Enjoy!

About the Author
As young adult, Trollope endured seven years of poverty in the General Post Office in London before accepting a better-paying position as postal surveyor in Banagher, Ireland in 1841. The years in Ireland formed the basis of his second career delineating clerical life in small cathedral towns.

Trollope and Social Politics

Trollope's first novel in his Barsetshire series was The Warden. It was based on the corruption at St. Cross Hospital during the early nineteenth century by its Master, Francis North, in Winchester, England.

At the time of the Second Reform Act of 1867, Trollope had written the first of his Paliser series, which was a political novel. At this time, he also wrote Nina Balatka, a novel which reflects the beginning of the end of social restrictions inflicted on Jews in Prague. It concerns the love between a Catholic woman, Nina, and a Jewish man, Anton Trendellsohn who was a merchant.

It is the story of the couple's triumph over family manipulation and lies to find a life for themselves. With so many stereotypical Jewish characters in Trollope's prolific literature, Nina Balatka serves as an effective way to demonstrate that his antisemitism is satirical and stops with his characters while his sympathy for the Jew is without reservation.

Trollope was able to proceed with his political life by running for parliament representing the borough of Beverley. He was unsuccessful but was able to continue his series of Paliser novels. Part of his goal was to chronicle anti-semitism in Victorian England which he did successfully. Due to his evenhandedness in writing Nina Balatka, the prejudice was never one of which he could be accused.

George Eliot followed his lead by writing Daniel Deronda,a story about a Jew who is also betrayed by his family but eventually finds love among one of his own. Although she is generally considered of higher intellect than Trollope, she was not able to rid her novel of her personal conviction that married women are dull, dependent creatures who are unable to think for themselves. In this respect, Nina Balatka is refreshing as a fearless heroine, willing to face the duplicity of her family in the name of love.

Love against all odds in Prague.

Anthony Trollope typically writes long novels with several story lines that come together as the novel progresses. Not so with Nina Balatka. Set in Prague in the middle of the nineteenth century when anti-Semitism made life difficult for the Jews, the story begins with the announcement that a lovely yet desperately poor Christian girl named Nina Balatka is engaged to marry a rich Jewish man named Anton Trendellsohn. Everyone in the Christian and Jewish community is against the marriage and Nina's aunt and cousin do all they can to prevent the wedding from taking place.

Nina, a strong willed and completely reliable young woman, is well prepared to defend herself against all of Prague, if necessary. Her chief problem is not the Christians and Jews in Prague, but her betrothed, Anton Trendellsohn. His father owns the house Nina and her father live in, but the Trendellsohns do not have the deed for the property. Anton desperately wants to acquire this document. Nina tells Anton in no uncertain terms that she and her father don't have the deed, but he does not believe her.

The entire novel centers on this lack of trust and its consequences for Nina and Anton. We, the readers, know that Nina is telling the truth. We experience her frustration as again and again she tries to convince Anton that the deed is in the possession of her aunt, uncle, and cousin, who will do anything to prevent her marriage to Anton.

No spoilers here. The reader of this review who wants to find out just what happens to the deed, the great mystery of the story, will have to read the novel to find out. Also, we don't learn until the end of the book if the course of Nina's true love for Anton is rewarded or if Nina throws herself off a bridge in Prague into the Moldau river to drown herself, as she is tempted to do when it appears that she will not marry Anton.

The problem with this novel is that Nina is too good and Anton is clearly unworthy of her great love. All her reason tells her to break off the marriage and we, the readers, are convinced by her logic, even if she is not. When I finally came to the end of this short novel, and none too soon, I was not fully satisfied with the outcome. Even so, this is the work of Anthony Trollope, one of my favorite English authors. Even mediocre Trollope is far superior to anything the reader is likely to find in any modern novel. Nina Balatka is not a place to begin an acquaintance with the novels of Anthony Trollope, but those who love Trollope's work, as I do, are almost certain to find some merit in this novel.
