Great book on Dart

This book is a valuable resource to anyone looking into Dart development.

Not only is it well writen but the code examples are pretty interesting, you'll go from learning the basics of the language to more advanced topics like Futures and Isolates and you'll even see how to develop your own Dart MVC framework.

Most of all this book is very easy to read and get you straight into Dart development. I recommend it to anyone wanting to learn Dart and even to more experienced users since the author's examples are more than interesting.

This book is a great idea and actually pretty well written from a readability standpoint, hence three stars. Unfortunately dart has changed out from under the book and it needs a revision. Once its updated, it might be a great quick intro to the language. But I advise you to save your money until 1.0.

Only negative I can suggest is it would have been nice to have a little more detail on a couple things such as the making of the book covers. Very Thorough Guide

I have read several guides now from erotica writers on how to be successful. Typically, they all focus on the same things. The difference between them comes with clarity in text. Amy's guide is that clarity. The layout and text itself are easy to read. All her tips are written in simple to understand language and she emphasizes that this is what worked for her. You take what you bring to writing and the tips that work for you. I appreciate that this guide focuses mostly on self publishing to Amazon since this is the only place I am interested in exploring. If you have to pick up one book for info about writing erotica, this is it.

It's darker than either of Tolkien's more popular works, "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings", and I'd say that's a good thing. The drama is compelling, the language is beautiful, and the characters, while not entirely fleshed out (this isn't a novel, it's a book of lore), are interesting throughout. If you want to know more about Tolkien's epic and breathtaking creation, as well as get all the subtle references to the past sprinkled throughout "The Lord of the Rings", then this book is for you.

Reads like the bible in the beginning of every chapter and like the lord of the rings 3/4 of the way through each chapter. The names of any of the valar would make awesome band names. The nonsensical-sounding LOTR-speak in the movies makes perfect sense after reading this. names, origins, geographic regions, the dark feeling covering everything, all explained.

But really, in all honesty, you'll never REALLY and truly understand The Lord of the Rings trilogy, or for that matter, most of The Hobbit if you're not at least marginally familiar with The Silmarillion. It's a tough nut to crack at first, it reads a little like the Old Testament (which Tolkien was trying to avoid, read the forwards) but once the begats are over and the stories of how the world came to be begin, you'll be hooked and I was honestly pained to put it down to do things like sleep and go to work.

Most diners believe that their sublime sliver of seared foie gras, topped with an ethereal buckwheat blini and a drizzle of piquant huckleberry sauce, was created by a culinary artist of the highest order, a sensitive, highly refined executive chef. The truth is more brutal. More likely, writes Anthony Bourdain in Kitchen Confidential, that elegant three-star concoction is the collaborative effort of a team of "wacked-out moral degenerates, dope fiends, refugees, a thuggish assortment of drunks, sneak thieves, sluts, and psychopaths," in all likelihood pierced or tattooed and incapable of uttering a sentence without an expletive or a foreign phrase. Such is the muscular view of the culinary trenches from one who's been groveling in them, with obvious sadomasochistic pleasure, for more than 20 years. CIA-trained Bourdain, currently the executive chef of the celebrated Les Halles, wrote two culinary mysteries before his first (and infamous) New Yorker essay launched this frank confessional about the lusty and larcenous real lives of cooks and restaurateurs. He is obscenely eloquent, unapologetically opinionated, and a damn fine storyteller--a Jack Kerouac of the kitchen. Those without the stomach for this kind of joyride should note his opening caveat: "There will be horror stories. Heavy drinking, drugs, screwing in the dry-goods area, unappetizing industry-wide practices. Chef at New York's Les Halles and author of Bone in the Throat, Bourdain pulls no punches in this memoir of his years in the restaurant business. His fast-lane personality and glee in recounting sophomoric kitchen pranks might be unbearable were it not for two things: Bourdain is as unsparingly acerbic with himself as he is with others, and he exhibits a sincere and profound love of good food. The latter was born on a family trip to France when young Bourdain tasted his first oyster, and his love has only grown since. He has attended culinary school, fallen prey to a drug habit and even established a restaurant in Tokyo, discovering along the way that the crazy, dirty, sometimes frightening world of the restaurant kitchen sustains him. Bourdain is no presentable TV version of a chef; he talks tough and dirty. His advice to aspiring chefs: "Show up at work on time six months in a row and we'll talk about red curry paste and lemon grass. Until then, I have four words for you: 'Shut the fuck up.' " He disdains vegetarians, warns against ordering food well done and cautions that restaurant brunches are a crapshoot. Gossipy chapters discuss the many restaurants where Bourdain has worked, while a single chapter on how to cook like a professional at home exhorts readers to buy a few simple gadgets, such as a metal ring for tall food. Most of the book, however, deals with Bourdain's own maturation as a chef, and the culmination, a litany describing the many scars and oddities that he has developed on his hands, is surprisingly beautiful. He'd probably hate to hear it, but Bourdain has a tender side, and when it peeks through his rough exterior and the wall of four-letter words he constructs, it elevates this book to something more than blustery memoir. 10/10 career chefs should read.

This book is fantastic. I've been looking for something that explains how I should work as a line cook and this book exceeded my expectations. Anthony Bourdain explains in such detail not simply what is expected but how to exceed expectations. He lays out a spectrum before your very eyes that encompasses the lowest and the greatest of the industry and gives you a bar to reach and exceed. This is definitely a book for someone new to the industry and will help me as I continue my career.

Incredible book about all there is to know in the food industry

This book is incredible and touches on just about everything that happens in the restaurant industry. Not only will you learn about all the ups and downs but you'll also get to understand what chefs do that makes their food better then your typical "house" meal as well as what it takes to learn the discipline of surviving in the industry.

Its a very NYC story. It's also a glimpse of how hard work is essential in order to be a chef . Its a good read for those who want to enter the business.

How nice to have an inexpensive version of this classic

I really appreciate that the publisher has put back in print R.O. Faulkner's translation of the ancient Egyptian Pyramid Texts. I have not read other versions, but many modern researchers state that this version is the definitive version of these classic texts.

For those of you who do not know, the Pyramid Texts are the oldest sacred writings known, the first of them appearing in the Egyptian King Una's pyramid around 5,000 years ago! Despite their age, the pyramid texts are a lucid description of ancient Egyptian religious ceremony and belief. To have a lucid, literate translation of them brings the ancient writings forward to the present and starkly proclaims their relevancy.

My only complaint, and it is a minor one, is that the pages appear to be copies of an original, out of print, text. Thus, the reproduction is a wee bit fuzzy. However, to have access to an excellent translation of a very important work of humanity more than compensates for this minor quibble.

Lastly, the super discounted price on Amazon is a steal.

Bland, but that's just the way it should be!

The classic interpretation by R.O. Faulkner is available in this current edition, and while I could go on and on about the Pyramid Texts themselves, this isn't necessarily a review of the content, but rather the book. I say this because R.O. Faulkner does what he does best: stays true to the translation and interpretation of the material, in a much, much better way than E.A. Wallis Budge could ever have done. His compilation in this volume is par excellence, and it is nice to see this back in print. I highly recommend this version to the serious student of Egyptology, not only because it's Faulkner, but also because the binding is tight, this print run is quality, and it's in a format that is easy to digest.

A must for those that are serious

look at my review of Ancient Egyptian Magic, this book is a must for the serious person that is studying. I have many books from Professor R.O. Faulkner, and I wouldn't give them away for anything. Point made this book is a must. you can disagree if you want that's fine but i have been studying for over 30+. .
