If you are hooked on mysadcat - this is an absolute MUST read.

Tom relates his move to Devon from Norfolk in England with The Bear, Ralph, Shipley and Roscoe ... truly an adventure that should not be engaged by the weak of heart. The Bear is stoic - as always. A new cat - George - tries to adopt Tom...

The stories are funny, and laugh out loud - told as only a man owned by his cats can tell them - from the heart. I laughed and I cried.

Not yet published in the USA (boo) it can be obtained through Amazon via third party sellers, so don't let a little thing like being published in England be a deterrent. According to the back cover it is also available as an ebook.

I had to have this sent to me by a friend in the UK so I could read it on my computer. (I am too impatient to wait for shipping and the deal was better even after exchange rates and taxes.) The attached photo is proof that I had it, and on my computer, LOL as I am not able to leave a "verified" review.

I absolutely loved this. The Bear, Ralph, Roscoe and Shipley might just be my new idols. Ivy, well, it apparently is my nemesis if I ever need to trim it...and moving without hiring a mover, it would seem, actually IS worse than death (although the author thinks he may actually be dead after the experience) and divorce. Who knew? Wait, the author's dad. :)

The charm of the book is the cats, the obvious love for them that Tom Cox has, and the wonderful way the author tells a story. His observations about life, cats, moving, and people in general are charming.

Get comfortable, get a cup of hot cocoa (preferably with a bit of amaretto if it is up to me) and cuddle in..The book is like hanging out with 5 friends, one human and 4 who think they are...

Not just a cat book. a life book.

I have LOVED this series, and Mr. Coxʻs writing in general. As i read through this one, i sense a bit of sadness - maybe itʻs just me. Mr. Cox seems to regard life through - wiser, yet no less humorous? - eyes. as his companions come (and go) through his life, one feels the love, appreciation and nostalgia for his beloved ones (feline and human) with all their charm and foibles. i certainly wish i could write like him, and go through life like him. he has much to share.

Perfect quick read to get into the holiday mood. This year I have totally found myself behind on the 'Christmas Spirit'...I am blaming El Niño...BUT THEN....the brilliant Elizabeth Hunter writes this story and I find that Christmas spirit in me light up.
You are in for a surprise from Ms Hunter in this short story. We find ourselves with our favorite Irin Scribe and Singer, and they are eagerly awaiting to meet their children. Ms Hunter sets the scene perfectly...the story is a perfect snapshot for those of us who just HAD to know what happened next. As is typical of her writing , you truly feel as though you are there in the scene. You smile as familiar characters enter ...you can't help but love.

What a great short story involving many characters from the Irin Chronicles. A wonderful midwinter blessing is bestowed upon Malachi and Ava. The journey is heartwarming and one that I'll think about for a little while. The book can be read as a stand alone, but I recommend starting with the first book to understand the characters history.

Leave it to Elizabeth Hunter to cure my book hangover. Even with a short story like "On A Clear Winter Night", she managed to transport me into a whole different world. For a little while, I was near Prague surrounded by the children of angels - characters I've come to love in the previous books in the Irin Chronicles series.

This little short story follows Malachi and Ava as they get ready to welcome their children into the world. Every soon-to-be parents is a mix of nervousness, insecurity and joy. But in the world that Malachi and Ava live in, one of them a child of the Fallen, the other a child of the Forgiven, things are even a tiny bit more complicated.
But leave it to those two to be so super-duper sweet without being cheesy. They are such a wonderful couple. Their love and respect for each other shining through every word and every deed.
They are truly a unit - the definition of soulmates. Their relationship is so beautiful and the birth of their children so touching, that I was sobbing a little bit while reading.

Elizabeth Hunter's storytelling is beautiful, poetic and imaginative. The writing flows and makes it easy to get lost in the story. To get lost in a different world.

Ok, DI Dixon has done it again. I truly like this guy. Some credit is due the author of course, but it seems like Nick is coming to life. Mr. Boyd is my favorite Author in the e-book arena. I always look forward to his latest offering, I download it to my Kindle, and then I savor it, waiting for just the right moment to begin reading. I've purchased all the books, and I'm going after book six as soon as I finish this review. I most enjoy the UK viewpoint, perhaps because I spent 3 years there while in USAF, or maybe it's because I like the atmosphere of the series. Nothing to criticize, this is simply a great series. If you are new to DI Dixon, start with the first book and work your way up, it's the best way to become acquainted with the characters. Great job with this one Mr. Boyd, I surely hope you continue to write.

While I've enjoyed them all, this one has the depth the first ones lacked. While I still don't really know what either he or Jane (or any of them) look like past the most cursive of glances, there was an underlying reason to this plot that didn't become obvious until the last page of the book. It is that passion that led to the idea of the book that sets it apart from the others I have read.

Ok I'm hooked,it may be post hurricane internet deprevation, but I don't think so. These are very entertaining stories,move quickly and make you think ,and having been absent from UK for so many years,interesting to see how things have changed.
They kept me involved,with the aid of ear plugs ,through 140mph winds and heavy rain.

About the Author
Brian Marber can make a fair claim to be the most widely experienced technical analyst in the world, having been one since 1963. A Fellow of the Society of Technical Analysts, he has been a blue button (stockbroker's clerk), stock market dealer, member of two UK stock exchanges, and managing partner of the London office of one of the largest regional 'broking houses. At IOS and then at NM Rothschild & Sons, totally eschewing the fundamental approach, he was the first fund manager in the UK to manage large funds using only technical analysis. Between 1976 and 1981, as a stockbroker, Brian Marber was voted by institutional investors No.1 technical analyst in the City for six successive years, a unique record. When he started managing FX accounts in the 1990s, he was given exemption from the SFA Exams because of his 'long and distinguished career in the investment industry.' In 1980, in a survey conducted by the Treasurer of the Singer Company, Brian Marber had the best FX forecasting record in the world. For 15 years he wrote monthly for Euromoney Currency Report, and more recently for the Financial Times. In the 1980s, Brian Marber was a Member of the Visiting Faculty of IMI (Geneva), the oldest established business school in Europe. In 1981, he founded a company which, with clients in 20 countries, became the world's largest independent FX consultancy. As a lecturer and teacher, Brian Marber has spoken at six Financial Times World Gold conferences, three Australian Gold Conferences, Johannesburg 100, Comex, and the Washington Gold & Silver Institute, and has also conducted seminars and teach-ins in Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, South Africa, Israel, Italy, UK, Eire, France, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland and Luxembourg. I would not give this book "Holy Grail" status, hence no five stars but Brian Marber tells you exactly what techniques he used in the City of London for the best part of forty years.Furthermore I found this book honest, relatively simple and in parts quite funny.A good book on technical analysis from a man with verifiable reputation. What more do you want?

Interesting and Inspiring

The book was interesting all the way through. Very well written except for just a couple of typos and grammatical errors. One of the author's previous books, Mushroom Wisdom, had awful spelling, grammar, and composition; this book contains and explanation as to why that happened.

The subject of the book is basically that we are all unified in consciousness and the author describes his journey to that enlightened state, using a variety of entheogenic substances, finally arriving at 5-MeO-DMT as his substance of choice. Just to let anyone reading this know: 5-MeO-DMT is NOT, I repeat NOT, the same as DMT!! Do your research if you intend on experimenting with these substances. There is a "friend" of mine that used 5-MeO-DMT and it was a horrific experience.

Machined perfection.

That's a phrase I like to use when I encounter something I really like. Something that is built with great care and built to last. I think this authors work is the closest anyone has gotten to the truth on some rather profound matters.

In the interest of full disclosure I have met the author once, and we talk online now and then. Meeting him was an utterly overwhelming experience. I have never met anyone quite so, energetic.

This book is the current end result of years of work with hallucinogenic substances paired with logical thought. An unfortunately rare thing as most who work with hallucinogens tend to go barreling down all manner of rabbit holes.

Unfortunately this is not a book for everyone, many people will not get it. Most people are still hung up in their various egoic constructs. Trying to make a world that is all straight lines, but the world doesn't exist in straight lines outside man made environments. It's all fractals of various sorts, and we are slowly waking up to that. Jet engines used to be all straight lines. But the latest turbofans use an essentially fractal pattern to their fan structure and work far more efficiently that turbojets that are just straight lines.

For the record I have never used hallucinogens. Narcotics seem to have little effect on me. Even massive doses of painkillers used during root canals haven't affected me very much at all. Also I am not a hippie of any sort. My father was, I would describe my politics as former militant socialist, turned hardcore right winger turned Anarcho-capitalist.

If you have any interest in understanding the underlying nature of reality I suggest you pick up this book and read it as soon as sandwichly possible. That's a reference to the we hate movies podcast, meaning within the time it takes to eat a sandwich. Don't go too fast, think it all over.

This book (and all that lies within) will definitely challenge you, shake you, break you, wake you and just perhaps... will help you to shatter everything you think you know about the true nature of Reality. ...Pick up this book and read on... I'll just go ahead and put it out there... I'm a big fan and I LOVE entheogens, (especially 5MeO-DMT) have done "The Work" thereby accepting my own Divinity as a result of "my choice" ...deep processing, surrender, opening and releasing of energetic blocks which no longer served me, largely through the sessions with the medicine (namely the first two) and inspiring creations by the author. (Music, podcasts, books and art)

About the Author
Howard Abadinsky is professor of criminal justice at St. John's University. A graduate of Queens College of the City University of New York, he has a PhD in sociology from New York University. Prior to entering academia, he was a New York State Parole Officer and Senior Parole Officer and a Cook County, Illinois, Deputy Sheriff/Inspector. He was a consultant to the President's Commission on Organized Crime and founder of the International Association for the Study of Organized Crime. Dr. Abadinsky is the author of several books, including THE CRIMINAL ELITE: ORGANIZED AND PROFESSIONAL CRIME; PROBATION AND PAROLE: THEORY AND PRACTICE; DRUG USE AND ABUSE; and LAW, COURTS, AND JUSTICE IN AMERICA.

Great textbook

I using this textbook in my Drugs In Society class at Boston University and it does cover a lot of territory.

It's easy to understand and it illustrates how all drugs can affect your life. And I especially liked how it included things like caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol. A lot of people tend to believe since they're legal that it's not a drug. Good book.

If you need it for a class, it's very student friendly.
