Alas, in this day and age fewer and fewer readers not enrolled in literature classes actually read the works of what are frequently referred to as "dead white males" even if, as in this case, they were actually written by a woman. For this reason, this title is recommended for all academic but only larger public libraries.

A book for all times, but not for all readers

Question: How can you ensure that a person will hate a book? Answer: Make her read it for 7th grade English class, make sure that the language is old-fashioned, and above all, make sure that the ideas and concepts are over her head. If that's what happened to you, and that's why you have an aversion to Silas Marner, and you are now over 30, pick it up again. Read it twice. Silas Marner is one of the greatest novels in the English language.
Yes, it starts out sad, as our pathetic hero looses both his trust in humanity and his faith in God. But the power of love replaces his lust for money, and wins out in the end. Meanwhile, morally poor but financially rich, high-living Godfrey Cass provides a counterpoint to simple Silas. At the end there's a surprise when the fate of Godfrey's evil brother is revealed.
When you're all done, before you file Silas Marner on the shelf, go back and read the paragraph about Silas' thoughts when he discovers that his hordes of coins are missing. If you have ever felt sudden extreme loss, you will recognize the stages of despair from disbelief to acceptance "like a man falling into dark water." Which is why this book is not suitable for children, and is most appreciated by those who have undergone their own moral redemption.
Silas has been the inspiration for many other characters, including Dicken's Scrooge. He has been portrayed in movies, including "A Simple Twist of Fate" starring Steve Martin. But none is as good as the original. If you haven't read it since junior high, try it again. Silas Marner is an excellent book. There's a gem of human understanding in every chapter.

A Tale of the Redeeming Power of Love

Silas Marner is an excellent classic novel set in early Nineteenth Century England. In this story, George Eliot (pen name for Mary Ann Evans) depicts a man named Silas Marner, a weaver by trade. He lives happily in his home town of Lantern Yard, until his best friend William Dane betrays him by setting him up as a thief. William then marries Silas' fiancée, and Silas is shunned from the town. He eventually settles in a very small cottage in Raveloe, where he spends his days making cloth and other materials for the townspeople. Due to his now secretive and reclusive ways, the people of Raveloe never really come to know Silas, and he lives in solitude, having turned away from his former faith and happiness.
But one winter's night, a small orphan girl comes to his house, and everything changes. Silas cares for the child (with the help of his neighbor, Mrs. Winthrop, whose family soon befriends him), and his heart begins to soften.
This is a very good representation of the redeeming power of love, and the consequences of a person's actions. For people who enjoy classic literature, this is definitely a must-read.

Pure gold

If you have a heart, the story of Silas Marner will warm it. You are better coming to it fresh, without knowing anything of the simple yet solid plot, so I will say nothing of it. I will just urge you to read this wonderful book. Eliot writes beautifully and from page one, you realize you are in the hands of a true artist. This is a very human, very English story of simple people living through those very basic emotions that make the world turn and give the universe meaning.

The author has, as always, dug deeper than previous writers into NASA’s documentation and pulled out fascinating and highly obscure details of the events. Working with two editors who are, in their own right, experts in the history of spaceflight, the author managed to surprise even them with a few previously over-looked facts. Yet, although technically correct and fact-filled, the “Growing Up With Spaceflight” series is not a dry engineering account. Rather it is fun and witty read that will take the reader on a pleasure trip to a time gone-by. The author has gone to great lengths to add illustrations that are both informative and unique. As in all of his works, Wes Oleszewski has produced a book that is free of gratuitous sex and violence and he remains clear of the personal lives of the people who made the space program happen. This is a book of pleasure reading that avoids tabloid tidbits. Readers will enjoy this book and they will learn a thing or two as they do. By the time that they finish, they will be looking for the next book in the series. All six volumes of the “Growing Up With Spaceflight” series are completed and will be by early 2016.

D.C Moore was part of the Royal Court's Young Writer's Programme in 2004-5 and his first full length play ALASKA was produced there in 2007 starring Rafe Spall in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs. In 2008, for ALASKA, David was awarded the inaugural Tom Erhardt Bursary by the Peggy Ramsey Foundation which is given to support promising playwrights. His other theatre credits include BRITNEY (dir. Sacha Wares, Royal Court Ignition) in 2008, LATER (Paines Plough/Trafalgar Studios) in 2007 and JULIUS (Latitude Festival) in 2006.

Having had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with Dr. Senger on multiple occasions, the man who literally wrote the book on theriogenology, I'm happy to have this book again. I bought it in undergrad, and before I knew my interest in vet school would be therio, stupidly sold it back. But hey, I got the newest edition, so I can't complain.

My wife is an animal science major and one of her animal reproduction classes required this textbook. The text and pictures are in high resolution and appear on what seems to be a high grade gloss stock paper. While paperback, if taken care of, this book should remain the best quality and should be able to be used for years to come.

Discipline is lacking ..this book can help all parents

Wow..reading the past reviews you would think Dr. Dobson doesn't have any clue of how to handle a child when they are young. My wife and I read this book before we raised out two kids. Abuse and violence, are not adjectives to use in describing Dr. Dobson's book. This book helped us raise our children with love and respect. One comment in the book was to make sure after the discipline you choose to use on your child was to make sure you talked about the behavior and not the child and to hug them and tell them you love them before you end your talk. Abuse and violence doesn't covet those actions. The issue we have today is that every discipline action is considered violent or abuse. Give me a break. My kids didn't need any discipline after their formative years because they "got it". Not out of fear but respect. Big difference people. I strongly recommend this book for all parents. I am a junior high teacher and have been for 20+ years...simple discipline in my classroom is a way of showing my students I care about them. Amazing how they respond. If you didn't need to use discipline on your kids then consider yourself blessed.

My parents followed this abusive philosophy & I had to run away at 16

Sadly, my parents read this book and followed Dr. Dobson's abusive philosophy. I first attempted to escape my home at 14, then ran away for good at 16.

I have vivid, horrible memories of my punishments, and it was only years and several therapists later that I understood my parents did love me. They were just extremely misguided about how to show it- thanks in great part to this book.

My heart breaks for and other survivors of parents that fell for this book's message.

Children need responsive Parents

Based on Dr Dobson's opinions, not science. He actually suggests when your baby cries, you should not respond imediately, but wait in the doorway for a few minutes. Current science says that this will actually cause anxiety in the child. Also, with the amount of violence in our culture, I don't think parents really need permission to hit their kids.

My Interest Has Definitely Been Piqued!!!

When I first purchased this book, I was quite unsure as to what to expect, but I can honestly say that I was most pleasantly surprised. This book truly provided some wonderful insights into how and why the personality of inventors sets them apart from others. Geoffreys' made what otherwise could have been a tedious subject, entertaining and engaging by providing examples throughout the book of different ENTP figures who were easily recognizable. I found this to be quite useful as it allowed me to see how the different strengths and weaknesses revealed themselves in real people who are ENTPs as opposed to looking at it from an abstract point of view. I particularly enjoyed his list of influential ENTPs and found myself looking at these individuals from a new perspective that I otherwise may never have come to on my own. Another touch that I greatly appreciated was Geoffreys' inclusion and much appreciated introduction to MTBI Personality Types. I say it was much appreciated because it provided me with some insight to my own personality and has piqued my interest into learning more about the different types of MTBI personalities. I will definitely be picking up his other books!

About the Author

Sharon Asakawa and her husband Bruce are, without question, the most highly respected gardening experts in California. Sharon has been part of the nursery industry for decades. She began working in their family gardening center shortly after marrying Bruce in the early 1960s. Ultimately, she was in charge of the floral department where she gained hands-on practical experience. As their business grew, Sharon and Bruce began leading garden tours to great locales around the world, helping introduce the garden travelers to notable gardens and plants. Fantastic for the Succulent Lover

I've been working with succulents for the past 2 years, I've been looking for a book that will help me group the certain groups of succulents together to make beautiful container gardens. I had some great ones, but I realized this one wasn't getting enough water or one was getting burned. Mr. Bagnasco really helped me on that subject, he breaks it down very well. So I was so glad when I found this book, it's a lot better than the more expensive ones. I highly recommend this book to succulents lovers everywhere.

Brilliant Designer

Robyn Foreman's design skills are brilliant. In each and every project I have ever seen from Robyn, she delivers far above expectations and other designer's standards. She is a game changer. Her passion for quality is only surpassed by her innovative and creative genius. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this book for any botanical fashionistas looking to add succulents in their life. Robyn makes the spaces around her better.

Informative and Inspirational

This book is rich with information about succulents and how to successfully grow them in a variety of ways. Examples: beds, terrariums, vertical wall, pallet garden, etc. Step-by-step directions are given. A very helpful "first aid" section is also included. I learned some tips on why my plants didn't always thrive. I'm planning on buying two more books for other gardeners in my family.

Divisions by Kyell Gold

Divisions is another little step into the life of tiger Dev and fox Lee. They are now a couple, together in front of their respective families and the public. Dev's football team is backing him, new friends are helping them settle into the life of a committed couple and some old friends are creating troubles. This new installment in a series that I loved since book 1 is confirming my idea that this is a very ordinary love story, a nice romance, with that just touch of sexy to make it good, about anthropomorphic characters, but that is like saying the guy had black hair and blue eyes, or the girl had long hair and brown eyes, only that here you have a guy with long stripes and big paws or the other guy with a fluffy tail...

It's also about football, and for me who is not an expert, the feeling is that Kyell Gold knows about the stuff, and so, if you are a fan of that sport, I suppose this is definitely a book you wanted to read; from my external point of view, I suppose there are more men fan of the sport than women, so I would say this is quite a manly romance, but hands up, I'm pretty sure there are also women who love the sport (and the players!).

Other than football the main theme is Lee's struggle with his mother, who has joined an ultra-conservative group that is supposedly helping the families remained united when a kid comes out. Unfortunately the group is moistly trying to "pray out" the gayness from the kid, often with tragic outcomes. Even if in an anthropomorphic setting, unfortunately this side of the story rang very true, and it's saddening to think that this is really happening somewhere, especially in small town where the abused kid (because this is abusing) has no one else helping him out of that trap.

Kyell Gold started the book advising the readers that, once he finished the first draft of the story, it was too long to fit only 1 book, and so he split it into two separate novels. So you will reach the end knowing that not everything will be wrapped up here, but also with the good news that soon enough you will have the chance to spend another pleasant day reading about Dev and Lee.

Great book, but obviously part 1 of 2

Right before Divisions came out, I read the two prequels, Out of Position and Isolation Play. Divisions picks up right where it needs to, and while I'm sure people can enjoy it the book without having read the previous two, I wouldn't recommend it.

Divisions, like the others, is not a story about football, but about the homosexual relationship of a football player and his boyfriend. I gave this book 4/5 stars because I didn't enjoy the book like I did the previous two, but that's mostly because the book ends right in the middle of things, and Kyell himself admits that he basically split one draft into two books. That aside....

The book is everything that I expect from Kyell Gold: the characters are believable, endearing, and dynamic. While I can't say Kyell has a distinct writing style, he does have a crisp, clean, mature style that will not annoy or draw attention to itself.

Overall, I recommend this book and cannot wait for the sequel. I'll probably reread the series again due to how it progresses from one book to another, and I believe that to appreciate the book the most, you have to start the relationship over to understand it properly.

A-to the-Furry mazing

I've been following the series since I first discovered kyell gold. This book, in my opinion, takes the series to a whole new personal level. Dealing with issues that a Coupple would face, not just professional footballers. Fights, undertones and secrets. It's a great read, and I find it impossible to put down once I've started, even after I've already read it. If you've read any of the books you'd know as well as I do that you are going to read it anyway. No matter what I say. It's brilliant, but if you are just coming into the series, start at the start. Because it's beautiful.

High quality multi-author contribution

As any serious student who buys advanced science texts knows, edited books with many authors are almost always dismal. Cheetham & Day's book is a rare exception. If you seek a solid state chemistry text, you still can't find anything that is fully satisfactory. An authoritative book that has both the depth and breadth necessary to fill that role still doesn't exist, but this book is one of a couple that are worth buying in the meantime.
